American brass andirons, Federal 3 pc. set with tongs, ca. 1820s. Pair of ball top Boston antique brass andirons made for Franklin stove. Ball tops above turned balusters standing on arched legs with spurred knees and pointed slipper feet. These American brass andirons are seamed and retain original interior screw posts. Each with conforming logstops. Each stands 12 inches wide across toes, 16H x 20 front to back. Andirons come with 30 inch long tongs having penny tips. Unpolished patina. This handsome set descended within one family whose house is now a historic landmark, originally the home of a young officer killed in 1846 in the Mexican War. Family history given to purchaser.
