1800 Boston - Mr. Pierce’s “A Eulogy on GEORGE WASHINGTON The Great And The Good, Delivered, on the Anniversary of His Birth, At Brookline (Massachusetts)
(February 22, 1800) Special Imprint titled, “A Eulogy on George Washington the Great and the Good, Delivered, on the Anniversary of His Birth, At Brookline,... by John Pierce,” Printed by Manning & Loring, Boston, Very Fine.
February 22, 1732 was George Washington’s birthday, he died at Mount Vernon on December 14, 1799. This interesting and nicely presented special Imprint has 24 pages, complete, plus its original light blue paper wraps, measuring 5” x 8” being well printed on very clean laid period paper. There is some light scattered tone and trivial specks to the first two pages and there is irregularity and chips to the outer wrap margins from use, otherwise boldly printed and having nice eye appeal. John Pierce (1773-1849) was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard College in 1793. He accepted an invitation to become the Pastor of the First Church in Brookline, Massachusetts, and was ordained on March 15, 1797. Pierce was the sole pastor of the First Church in Brookline for 50 years. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Convention of Congregational Ministers, the Massachusetts Congregational Charitable Society, the Boston Association, and was secretary to the Board of Overseers of Harvard College. A scarce historical Imprint.
