<B>Fayetteville, NC</B></I> - $5 Original Fr. 399 <B>The Fayetteville NB</B></I> Ch. # 1756<BR>In our April Central States Auction we sold a First Charter Ace on this banking institution, which marked the first time since 1989 that a note from this bank was publicly offered. Though North Carolina Aces are much scarcer than the First Charter Fives, the note still wildly exceeded our expectations, realizing $57,500. Collectors are fortunate to see a second note from this institution in one year, and it is a most pleasing specimen. The technical merits of this <B>Very Fine-Extremely Fine</B></I> Original Series $5 allow us to use the split grade and few collectors or dealers would hesitate to call this beauty a full EF. The paper is very bright for the type, the signatures remains strong, and the overprint is still blazing red. The census shows just eight Original Series fives known from the entire state, with this perhaps the finest known.
