TLS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, Office of the Commissioner letterhead, March 27, 1991. Vincent writes Joe DiMaggio. In part: “While there has been a lot of justifiable attention paid to the fact that 1991 marks the 50th anniversary of your wonderful season, the fact remains that Baseball itself has not sufficiently recognized that milestone. I’m eager to correct. With that in mind, I am asking you and Ted Williams to join me at the 1991 All-Star Game in Toronto on July 9th. On that occasion, both the crowd in the ballpark and the huge television audience will be reminded of what you have accomplished, and of Baseball’s debt to you.” In fine condition, with a spot of soiling, staple at the top left, and a small strip of toning on the first page. Both baseball immortals joined Vincent at the game…and were applauded for their contributions to the National Pastime. A great letter mentioning two immortals as baseball prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of DiMaggio’s streak and William’s .406 average.
