Faulkner: Sherwood Anderson & Other Famous Creol William Faulkner: [I] Sherwood Anderson & Other Fam
William Faulkner: Sherwood Anderson & Other Famous Creoles (New Orleans, Louisiana: The Pelican Bookshop, 1926), first edition. Introduction is by Faulkner; caricatures are by William Spratling. This is the third Faulkner book published following The Marble Faun and Soldier's Pay. Green boards rubbed through on edges. Excellent spine repair. This is possibly unique; it is an out of series copy. The beige colored label is out of shape on lower right, and the bottom of the label is not cut cleanly, as are the top and left side. The total printing was 450 copies, with 50 copies hand-tinted by Spratling. Two hundred copies are numbered 51 - 250, and an additional 150 copies with a label pasted over the original limitation statement stating, "Second Issue 150 copies January 1927." All 400 copies were printed at the same time. There is, on the front pastedown, the following: "Maurice Ries/October 28, 1931/New Orleans."

Maurice Ries (1907 - 1986) was, for several years, a staff member of the Middle American Research Institute, located at Tulane University in New Orleans, and served as co-director with Arthur E. Gropp in the early 1940s. His commentary was used in a 1939 film titled Middle Americawhich was narrated by Lowell Thomas and John Martin. After leaving New Orleans, Ries became active in the motion picture industry in California.
