Fascinating etched British Pattern 1822 Infantry Officers’ sword by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London with brass scabbard; floral crest with circular legend “Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense” along with a Regimental number “41” and a series ofbattle honors: Detroit, Queenstown, Miami, Niagara, Ava, Candahar, Chuznee and Cabool, 1842”; overall good condition with brass guard and woven red and gold silk brocade hanging knot; scabbard is overall good with nice patina and scatteredminor denting. Note from consignor’s file indicates “Made for Ensign Alfred Taylor of the 41st (The Welch) regiment, c. 1850. Blade of fine quality well-etched with regimental devices and battle honours including the latter for theAmerican Campaigns of the French and Indian War period. Blade also shows owner’s (Taylor’s) Family Crest and Motto”. Est.: $350-$700.
