Historically important manuscript by Richard Nixon with detailed, handwritten notes from August 1966. As Nixon was gearing up to run for President in the 1968 election, he here outlines various foreign policy themes integral to his future campaign, with Vietnam at the forefront. Upon a sheet of legal paper, Nixon outlines his views on Vietnam in detailed notes. Sheet reads in ink, ''(1) War will not be lost in Vietnam (2) It could be lost in Washington / Must have a strategy to end the War with victory and aggression: 1. Needs more Air Power - Sea Power and ground offense (?). 2. War danger: 1. China danger increasing each day. Their interests depend on what power they have - it gives up. 2. U.S. support. 3. S.V. (?) Support. 4. Allied powers (?). 5. We delay Asian take off (?). Future: 1. China will not intervene. (unless war goes on). 2. S. Vietnam govt. will be stable. 3. At present pace - War is at least 2 years longer. 4. No negotiation...China: 1. Change when they change. 2. Best way to affect them -- to win them to peaceful change by convincing them that the war will change...More to mobilize Free Asia...'' Runs 1pp. Ruled legal sheet measures 8.5'' x 13'' with two staple holes to top left. Near fine overall.
