Fancy Sheffield fixed-blade small dirk knife approx. 8-3/4” overall, 4-1/2” clip blade with a false edge. Ricasso is marked “William Rodgers Celebrated Dirk Knife”. The blade has an etched panel with the word California with gold background. Circa approx. early 1850’s. The blade shows slight sharpening to the tip of the blade, otherwise in fine condition with very light staining. Tip, throat, and button German mounts are complete. The grip is one piece mother of pearl with German silver crossguard, ferrule and pommel cap. Original veneer covered cardboard sheath with gold embossing. Hugh Hayes Collection. Est.: $750 - $1,500
