Fancy Mexican officer’s sword with silver inlayed into steel hilt and pitiado inlayed scabbard. Blade marked “Fabrica de Toledo 1827”. The sword measures approx. 38-7/8” overall with 32-7/8” blade. The blade measures approx. 1-1/8” across the ricasso and tapers slightly to a spearpoint, which was sharpened on both sides. The hilt shows classic Mexican forging and inlay similar to spurmakers of the 19th century. The blade shows light to moderate scattered surface pitting and is well-marked. The scabbard is good with normal wear, slight scuffs, and blade has poked through the tip. The sword is of an earlier period than the scabbard, and this just indicates that the piece was reused as was traditional with swords as they were passed from father to son. The early date of the blade is in the Alamo period. The hilt and scabbard, which are original to it, were associated later. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
