And our offering is outgraded by only three other copies as of this writing, and all of those are just half a notch higher at 9.0. This issue is a Gerber "8," and it's actually a book that never hit newsstands -- publisher M. C. Gaines, the "father of the comic book," marketed it to various retailers to use as a promotional giveaway for their customers. At this early date, nobody knew if people would actually pay ten cents for one of these staple-bound things! The content consists of reprints of popular strips of the day, with Mutt and Jeff, Reg'lar Fellers, Joe Palooka and the like all appearing. Overstreet 2007 VF 8.0 value = $4,800; VF/NM 9.0 value = $8,900.
