<Our item number 111432>Spectacular Family Of Three Sea Scorpions Over 425 Million Yrs Old. Sea Scorpions were one of the first major sea predators before fish developed teeth and jaws. Known as eurypterids, these aquatic arthropods are distantly related to modern scorpions, but they did not have a stinger. Eurypterids were the first sea animal to leave the sea and come onto dry land. Over 425 Millions years old, these eurypterids were found in the Fiddlers Green Formation of Herkimer County, New York. The two largest are 5 inches long and complete with their swimming paddles and stinger-like telson. One of them even has three of its six delicate walking legs visible; the other one has one walking leg. These slender walking legs rarely fossilize. The third sea scorpion is disarticulated with the head and tail separated. The medium brown scorpions are nicely contrasted against the light grey matrix. It is difficult to locate even one near complete eurypterid, but an esthetic grouping of three is a reall y rare occurence.

Add $25 for domestic shipping.
Estimated Value $1,150-1,600.

Our item number 111432
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
