Ernest Shackleton personally owned and used camera viewer, most likely during his first expedition to the Antarctic aboard the Nimrod. That 1907-09 mission was completed successfully and became, at that time, the longest southern polar journey to that date and a record convergence on either Pole. Camera has a mounted silver plaque with a handwritten signed inscription by Shackleton reading: ''To H.B.C. Bussey / in remembrance of his / help to me in 1914 / Ernest H. Shackleton''. Camera viewer measures 5'' x 5'' when closed using metal clip. Wooden-based folding down black leatherette, shows some wear from use. The viewer Opens to 7 in height with a 4'' x 2'' opening on top to look through and a 5'' x 5'' base opening for the photograph. Overall, very good.
