These imitation beads were intentionally made to imitate the prestige of chevron beads in African markets, where chevrons were a high-status trade item. Because true chevrons required complex cane layering, European makers also produced these simpler, decorative "pseudo-chevrons" to satisfy demand. They are historically important despite being "fake" in the chevron sense. This bead is 3/4" long.
