Factory engraved T. J. Stafford single shot deringer, .22 cal., 3-1/2” barrel, blued barrel, gold gilded frame, varnished wood grips, #1743. This early deringer shows traces of original blue drifting to brown on the barrel with good markings; the frame shows approx. 85% rich original gold gilt (not polished brass with lacquer finish; its real gilt). The varnished wood grips are very good with some light wear at the edges and a nice grain. The release latch, hammer and small parts show considerable original finish. Made circa early 1860’s with approx. 2,100 produced; provenance: to our consignor from the Larry Fry collection. Est.: $750-$1,500.
