This is a very fine example of a deluxe Winchester Model 1892 lever action rifle with takedown barrel that was manufactured in 1911. The rifle was factory engraved by Angelo J. Stokes and is illustrated on page 336 of "WINCHESTER ENGRAVING" by R.L. Wilson. The receiver is engraved with relief scrollwork on a stippled and punch-dot background and features circular panels with a Big Horn sheep on the left side and running deer right side. The scrollwork extends to the barrel flats behind the rear sight. The rifle has a full blue finish with octagon barrel and full length magazine. The barrel has a dovetail mounted steel front sight with adjustment screw on the right side and a sporting style rear sight. The stock and forearm are highly figured, fancy grade, walnut with a high polish varnish finish. The stock features a checkered pistol grip with black hard rubber Winchester pistol grip cap and a shotgun buttplate. The black, hard rubber, buttplate is checkered and has the circular Winchester logo. The fancy walnut forearm is checkered and there are engraved floral designs surrounding the forearm cap screws. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN.U.S.A.PATENTED OCTOBER 14. 1884" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation: "32 W.C.F." is engraved on the right side of the barrel flat in a rectangular panel surrounded by scroll engraving. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1892/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG.IN U.S PAT.OFF" in three lines. The serial number "630133" is located on the underside of the receiver.
BBL: 24 inch octagonal
Stock: deluxe walnut checkered
Gauge: 32 WCF
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 630133
Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 75% plus of the original factory blue finish. Nearly all of the finish is present on the barrel and magazine. The forearm cap and takedown portion of the barrel show handling wear and the finish has faded to a silver-gray patina. The edges and lower portion of the receiver show light handling wear. There is moderate edge wear on the sides of the lever. The engraving is crisp and deep and the barrel and receiver markings are sharp. The stock and forearm are both in excellent condition and retain 90-95% of the high polish varnish finish. The checkering is in very fine condition with light handling wear. The stock and forearm have scattered, minor, handling marks. This is an attractive example of a factory engraved deluxe Winchester Model 1892 lever action rifle with desirable takedown barrel.
