Factory Engraved Savage Model 1899-C Lever Action Rifle with Roe Clark Letter
In the included letter, arms historian Roe S. Clark states that the Savage factory records confirm the serial number, caliber, type of barrel, pistol grip stock with hard rubber buttplate and grade "A" checkering and grade "A" engraving, and the rifle was shipped on March 29,1904 to Marshall Wells Hardware Company, a distributor located in Duluth. The rifle has a Marble No. 5 blade front sight with bead and a sporting type rear sight on a barrel marked with the two line address/patent dates on the top flat and "SAVAGE HI-PRESSURE STEEL / MODEL 1899" on the upper left flat. Equipped with a tang peep sight. The scroll engraved receiver has a leaf engraving on top the receiver ring. Checkered Schnabel forearm and pistol grip stock with factory hard rubber buttplate.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 60% original blue finish and the receiver retains 40% blue finish with the overall balance a smooth gray patina. The lever retains flashes of original case colors with the balance a smooth silver gray. There is some scattered minor spotting and pitting. The wood is fine with some minor dings and scratches and cracked at the upper tang. There is some minor bruising in the very good forearm checking. The pistol grip checkering is crisp.
