Factory Engraved Savage Model 1899-A Lever Action Rifle with Roe Clark Letter
In the included letter, arms historian Roe S. Clark states that the Savage factory records confirm the serial number, caliber, round barrel, grade "A" engraving with the name "Sidney R. Bennett" and stock with grade "A" checkering, and the rifle was shipped December 23, 1903 to A.A. Bennett. The rifle also features a blade front sight, a sporting type rear sight, and a tang peep sight. The top of the barrel is marked with two line address/patent dates marking and "SAV. 303". Scroll engraved receiver with leaves engraved on the receiver ring and "SIDNEY R. BENNETT / BAINBRIDGE, N.Y." on the underside. Straight grip stock with multi-point checkering on the Schnabel forearm and stock wrist and fitted with a crescent buttplate.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 60% of the thinned original blue finish and the receiver retains 40% of the blue with the balance a mottled gray patina. The buttplate has a dark mottled patina. The lever retains some vivid case colors with the balance a smooth dark patina. There is some minor spotting. The refinished wood is fine with some minor dings and scratches. The checkering has some wear and some minor dings.
