Factory Engraved Savage Arms Co. Model 1899 Grade B Lever Action Rifle

This example was manufactured circa 1902. It has factory "Grade B" engraving with the left side of the receiver showing a buck whitetail deer kneeling in a grassy field with his head held high inside a circle with floral scroll engraving around it. The right side shows a doe running in a field with a tree in the background in a circle with floral scroll engraving around it. There is a blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The top tang is tapped for a rear peep sight. Mounted on a smooth walnut forearm and straight grip stock with curved steel buttplate.

Manufacture: Savage Arms Corporation

Gauge: 303 savage
Finish: blue

Serial Number: 33566

Fair, strong traces of the original blue finish remain with a mostly brown patina on the barrel and a mostly silvery/gray patina on the receiver. The top chamber area has been notched with a file. There are scattered dings, dents scratches and some patches of minor pitting on the left side of receiver being more prevalent. Nearly all of the engraving remains but is smoothed out. The wood is also good with scattered dings, dents and scratches along with a couple long hairline cracks. Mechanically very good but the lever locking switch slips out of place.
