Factory Engraved Nickel-Plated Colt Single Action Army with Relief Carved Pearl Grips with Factory Letter

Colt Single Action Army revolver manufactured in 1905. The revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter which describes it as " Caliber: .45/c, Barrel length: 5 1/2", Finish: Nickel, Type of Stocks: Pearl with carved American Eagle motif" and "Factory Engraved: Yes". The letter further states that this revolver was sold to "Morgan Company" and shipped to the Simmons Hardware Company in St. Louis on May 26, 1905. The revolver has a full nickel-plated finish and one-piece pearl grip with a relief carved American Eagle on the right side. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO.HARTFORD CT.U.S.A.-" in a single line. The caliber, "45 COLT", is roll-stamped on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the two line, three date patent marking followed by the circled Rampant Colt trademark. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with a "5" assembler's mark above the Colt "Triangle/VP" proof mark. The full serial number, "268350" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number, "8350" is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder. "189" is stamped on the underside of the barrel behind the ejector housing boss. The assembly number "5907" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The trigger housing has an oval ejector rod head and the hammer has bordered knurling on the spur. The revolver is factory engraved with Colt No. 2 American style scrollwork on a punch dot background with zig-zag borders. The barrel legend is framed with wavy zig-zag borders, the caliber designation on the barrel is in a hand engraved panel and the Rampant Colt motif has a circular, double-line, border. The engraving was probably executed by Cuno A. Helfricht or his shop. Fewer than 1,000 Colt Single Action Army revolvers were factory engraved between 1873 and 1940. A factory engraved Colt Single Action Army is one of the most desirable of all American collector firearms.

Very fine. The revolver has been professionally restored to near mint. The restoration is extremely well executed and is barely detectable. The factory engraving is deep and crisp and the markings are perfect. The professionally made replacement pearl grips appear to be in near new condition. The action functions perfectly. This is a great looking example of a masterfully restored factory engraved Colt Single Action Army revolver documented by a Colt factory letter.
