Factory Engraved Moores Patent National Arms Number 1 Derringer with Patriotic Motif

Manufactured by National Arms Company from 1865 to 1870. The top of the barrel is marked "NATIONAL ARMS CO. BROOKLYN, N.Y." and the serial number and patent date are marked on the bottom. The sides of the barrel have a forward pointing arrow flanked by floral scroll engraving. The frame is decorated with broad scroll and punch dot engraving, a flower on top ahead of the hammer, an eagle patriotic shield motif behind. Checkered panels on the grip area. The matching assembly number "I86" is marked on the back of the barrel lug and inside of the frame next to the hammer. Standard sights, steel barrel and brass frame all silver plated.

Fine. The barrel is a mix of original silver plating and smooth silver gray patina. There is a small amount of minor oxidation. The frame has traces of gold with the balance an attractive aged patina. The engraving is excellent. The action is fine.
