Factory Engraved Merwin Hulbert & Co. Pocket Army Single Action Revolver with Ivory Grips

Manufactured in the late 1870s early 1880s, this Merwin Hulbert & Co. Pocket Army single action revolver features a round barrel, fluted cylinder, no top strap and bird's head butt with lanyard hole. The revolver is profusely engraved with the distinctive Merwin Hulbert & Co. style. The right side of the frame under the cylinder is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER" followed "1873", (the designation for caliber 44-40), and the left side of the frame is marked "MERWIN HULBERT & CO. N.Y./POCKET ARMY". The left side of the barrel has the two-line Hopkins & Allen address/patent date marking. The barrel, frame sides and top of the back strap feature a fine floral vine and punch dot engraving. The cylinder flats, loading gate and the barrel lug sides feature a floral leaf and punch dot pattern. In addition the left side of the frame has a game bird scene in a panel and there is the head of a Centurion in a circle on the right side. The matching serial number is stamped on the left side of the frame under the grip, on the rear face of the cylinder, on the cylinder pin and on the back of the barrel lug. Blade front sight and "V" notch rear sight integral to the recoil shield, all nickel finish and fitted with smooth ivory grips. The inside of the right panel is marked "James O Love/Newark Mo" in pencil.

Fine. The revolver retains 70% frosted original nickel finish with a smooth dark patina on the balance. The grips are very good with a couple of small minor age cracks, and an attractive grain and patina. The barrel marking is faint, otherwise the markings and engraving are clear. The action is fine. A very colorful old west factory engraved Merwin Hulbert Revolver.
