Factory Engraved L. C. Smith Grade 3E Side by Side Shotgun with Hunter One Trigger

Manufactured in 1910. This example has a game scene engraved on each side plate. Both side plates are engraved with two quail in a grassy field scene. Both game scenes are not engraved in an oval and resemble the Pigeon grade engraving. There are flourishes of floral scroll engraving on the side plates, receiver, trigger plate, trigger guard, break lever and forearm hardware. The barrels have a single ivory bead sight, are choked .010/.015 and have 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. The rib has a silver inlaid band near the breech end. The bottom flat of the barrels is stamped with the matching serial number and with the grade "3 E". Fitted with a tang mounted safety switch and a Hunter One single selective trigger. Mounted on a nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter walnut forearm with contrasting tip and pistol grip stock with hard rubber grip cap and Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. Length of pull is 13 1/8 inches.

Professionally refinished, 80% plus of the high quality blue finish remains on the barrels with some high edge, handling and storage wear along with scattered scratches and dings. The casehardened components are mostly polished bright with some areas of gray patina and scattered minor scratches. The engraving remains sharp and well defined. The refinished wood is fine with scattered dings, scratches, a couple small hairline cracks at the rear of the side plates and an added recoil pad. Mechanically excellent.
