Factory Engraved Colt New Line .22 Caliber Revolver with Ivory Grips
This fine factory engraved Colt New Line .22 Caliber revolver was manufactured in 1875. The revolver has the First Model seven-shot cylinder with short flutes and outside locking notches. The revolver is nickel plated with a casehardened hammer and trigger and is fitted with two-piece, ivory, bird's head grips. "COLT NEW 22" is acid etched in a panel on the left side of the barrel. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "+ COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. Co./HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A.+" in two lines. The full serial number, "9087" is stamped on the revolver butt and the partial serial number "087" is stamped on the underside of the barrel. The revolver is decorated with scroll engraving on a punch-dot background. The engraving is equal to what Colt later termed level "A" engraving.

Very fine. The revolver retains approximately 75% of the nickel plated finish. There is finish discoloration, flaking and pitting on the cylinder flutes and both ends of the cylinder. The under side of the barrel muzzle and the right side of the frame have some minor finish flaking. The markings are clear and the engraving is crisp. The ivory grips have yellowed from age and have several very minor stress cracks but remain in very fine overall condition. The cylinder does not turn when the hammer is cocked.
