Factory Deluxe Engraved Colt London Model 1849 Pocket Revolver

These revolvers were manufactured from 1853 to 1857 and serial numbered in their own range, 1-11000, with this example having been manufactured in 1855. The muzzle and breech end of the barrel, frame, loading lever, back strap and trigger guard are engraved with a floral scroll design and the cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach hold up scene, and marked "COLTS PATENT/No 7718.". The left side of the barrel lug is marked with a "crown/V" and "crown/GP" proof mark. The proof marks are repeated on the cylinder alternating between each nipple recess. The top barrel flat is marked "{ADDRESS.COL:COLT/LONDON.}" and the left side of the frame is marked "Colts Patent" in a banner. The complete matching serial is marked on the loading lever, bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder and cylinder pin, with "718" on the wedge. There is a punch dot below the serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap, and one behind the serial number on the cylinder, which designates special finish or engraving at the factory. Brass post front and hammer notch rear sights, blue finish with casehardened frame and hammer, and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip.

Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina with traces of original blue finish in protected areas of the barrel. There are some signs of some light cleaning and the cylinder has a bright appearance, and the scene is 95% visible. There are traces of original case colors around the frame screws. The slightly undersize grip is very good with some edge wear and minor handling marks. The engraving and markings are clear. The action is fine.
