Facsimile of Gene Roddenberry's First Draft Proposal for Star Trek. Sixteen pages. 8.5 x 10.75 inches. Two staple binding. Dated March 11, 1964. Front and back pages slightly toned, else fine.

An interesting read given the hindsight of over forty years. The proposal lays the groundwork for the series Roddenberry envisioned as "a 'Wagon Train' concept - built around characters who travel to worlds 'similar' to our own, and meet the action-adventure-drama which becomes our stories." The original draft called for the "S.S. Yorktown" to be commanded by Captain "Robert M. April", navigated by José Ortegas, with ship's doctor "Phillip 'Bones' Boyce". Captain April's right-hand man was the familiar "Spock", who Roddenberry described as "almost frightening - a face so heavy-lidded and satanic you might almost expect him to have a forked tail. Probably half Martian, he has a slightly reddish complexion and semi-pointed ears." Several proposed episode plots are also included. An important document that spawned one of the biggest cult followings in history. From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
