Fabulous Albert Einstein 1939 Typed Letter Signed
Fabulous Albert Einstein 1939 Typed Letter Signed with Important Content Written on his embossed, personal 8.5" x 11" letterhead at Princeton, and dated June 14, 1939. The content is so poignant that we reproduce it here in its entirety: "June 14, 1939, Mr. Max Abelman, 555, Prospect Pl., Brooklyn, N.Y., My dear Mr. Abelman: May I offer my sincere congratulations to you on the splendid work you have undertaken on behalf of the refugees during Dedication Week. The power of resistance which has enabled the Jewish people to survive for thousands of years has been based to a large extent on traditions of mutual helpfulness. In these years of affliction our readiness to help one another is being put to an especially severe test. May we stand this test as well as did our fathers before us. We have no other means of self-defense than our solidarity and our knowledge that the cause for which we are suffering is a momentous and sacred cause. It must be a source of deep gratification to you to be making so important a contribution toward rescuing our persecuted fellow-Jews from their calamitous peril and leading them toward a better future. Sincerely yours, Albert Einstein", signed "A. Einstein". Our research discloses little about Abelman, except that he was associated with the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn. Written as the clouds of war gathered in Europe and Hitler's persecution of the Jews was already in full swing, this letter illustrates Einstein's close and emotional identification with his Jewish roots. Excellent condition except for three punch holes along left edge, easily matted out. Accompanied by COA from PSA/DNA.
