Created after the original 1902 Duchess of Marlborough egg. Enamel & gilt over pewter, with embedded Austrian crystals. The top of the egg lifts off, with magnetic closure, to reveal an enameled interior for storing trinkets or jewels. The base of the egg contains a music box that plays "Nutcracker" by P. Tchaikovsky. 7 3/4'' H X 2 3/4''D. Comes with gift box. The Duchess of Marlborough egg is a jeweled enameled Easter egg made by Michael Perchin under the supervision of Peter Carl Faberge in 1902. It is the only large Royal Russian Easter egg to have been commissioned by an American and is inspired by a Louis XVI clock with a revolving dial. It is similar to the 1887 Blue Serpent Clock egg. The egg was made for Consuelo Vanderbilt, who became the Duchess of Marlborough when she married Charles Spencer-Churchill, 9th Duke of Marlborough in 1895. In 1902 the Duchess and her husband traveled to Russia, where they dined with Nicholas II of Russia and visited his mother, the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna at the Anichkov Palace. During this visit, the Duchess would have almost certainly seen the Dowager Empress' large collection of eggs, which perhaps inspired her to order one for her. In 2004 it was sold as part of Forbes Collection to Viktor Vekselberg for almost $100 million. Â

This also includes complimentary insurance coverage up to $100 in value.
Items weighing more than 5lbs or shipped outside the contiguous USA or having a value more than $100 will be billed at discounted USPS and UPS shipping rates and will show as a quoted line-item on your final winning invoice.
We handle shipping internally to best secure and insure your won lots. Please allow 3-4 weeks to receive your items depending on where you are in the world relative to the item(s) you won at auction.
Larger items (those items larger than 24" or weighing more than 41 pounds) may need to be picked up locally or arrange for local pickup or your own freight using a service like uShip. There is a $50/docking/loading fee for local pickup of items and we do require 24-48 hour notice as we have warehouses all around the world and need to coordinate for pickup at each one depending on your location. We can help coordinate logistics but the primary responsibility for claiming your new possession(s) is on you, the winning bidder.
Items not coordinated for pickup within 45-days of winning the item at auction will be stored at $5/day until picked up or until the full value of the item has been absolved in storage fees at which point the item will become the property of Connoisseur to resell or dispose of as it deems best.
IMPORTANT: There will accordingly be three line-item fees on your winning bidder invoice to note:
1.) Online Transaction Fee - 2.5% credit card processing and 2.5% online hosting management
