Three jewel boxes in one - a large silver / white enameled egg ( 3 1/2" H X 3" D ) that is separate, but sits directly on a 5 prong, fleur de lis embellished stand ( 2 1/4" H X 3" D ). A smaller, removable egg is hiddeninside the rubber lined larger egg. The smaller egg is gold enameled & opens to reveal a golden guilloche interior with a tiny gold & silver enameled hen ( 1 1/2" L X 1 1/2" H ) which also opens to revel a golden guilloche interior for hiding a tiny jewel. History of the original egg: The Hen Egg is the first in a series of fifty-two jeweled eggs made under thesupervision of Peter Carl Faberge for the Russian Imperial family. It was crafted and delivered in 1885 to the then-Tsar of Russia, Alexander III. The tsarina and tsar enjoyed the egg so much that Alexander III ordered anew egg from Faberge for his wife each subsequent Easter. The crafting of the first Imperial egg is attributed to Erik Kollin of Faberge's shop.
