FUNERAL SERVICES FOR ANDREW JACKSON HELD IN NEW YORK
Unusual manuscript D.S 1p. 4to., [New York, n.d., but docketed Aug. 1845] being an expense report submitted by the "Committee on the funeral of General Andrew Jackson" for funeral services held in Jackson's honor in New York City on June 24, 1845. The document is headed "The Committee of the funeral Obsequies of General Andrew Jackson have audited and allowed the following bills." The expenses included $60 for advertisements in the "Evening Post" and the "True Sun" as well as $3 allotted to five men for tolling bells. The largest expense ($68) was for gloves for the mourners that were provided by the firm of Clark & Saxton at 175 Broadway. The distribution of gloves at funerals was a common practice in the late eighteenth and nineteenth century. light toning at extreme margins and folds, fold splits requiring repair, else very good.
