SUBMACHINE GUN. Cal. 9MM. S#74696. Bbl. 7.75". The British Lanchester Submachine Gun was designed by G.H. Lanchester & manufactured by the Sterling Engineering Company. It was heavily influenced by the design of the German MP21 II. The muzzle end of the barrel jacket includes a bayonet boss & stud for use w/ the Mark 1, Pattern 1907 bayonet. Typical of pre-WWII SMG's, it is heavily built w/ a difficult degree of manufacturing, compared to many of those designed later, when necessity was more important than design perfection. The early examples were select fire, while the later guns, such as this example, the MK. 1*, built as a full auto only. It was once fielded by the British Navy. The muzzle end of the unique circular perforated barrel shroud has the appearance of an old "Pepperbox", w/ many barrels, while the outside holes are only actually functional as cooling ports. Like the popular Sten, the magazine presents from the left side. Tubular receiver. Protected post front sight. Dual aperture rear notch sight. Wooden shoulder stock & forend. Brass butt plate & magazine well. Sling swivels, front & rear, currently sporting tan, canvas sling. MAGS: 2 steel 50 rd. CONDITION: Black flat Suncorite style finish coverage is quite complete, still partially covering Brass mag well. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. PROVANANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Brian Linde. (03-1901/JZ). CURIO CLASS III. $8,000-12,000.
