FRY, BIRKETT D.
(1822 - 1891) Confederate brigadier general wounded at Seven Pines, Antietam, Chancellorsville, and finally Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg here he was also captured. After his exchange he was promoted general in May, 1864. Excessively rare war-date partly-printed D.S. signed twice "B. D. Fry" adding rank as brigadier general, on CSA official form, 1p. 4to., Augusta, Ga., Augusta, Ga., Sep. 30, 1864, seeking reimbursement of his travel expenses from Richmond to Augusta. Very slight paper loss at fold, "B" in one of the signatures is brushed. Included is an A.L.S. by A. A. Gen. JOHN WITHERS, 1p. 4to., Richmond, Va., Sept. 14, 1864, in part: "...Brig. General B. D. Fry P. A. C. S. is assigned to duty to relieve Brig. General A. R. Wright, at Augusta, Georgia, and Brig. General Wright...[will] report to Gen'l. J. B. Hood…". Overall very good to fine. Two pieces.
