FRIENDSHIP HAND FIRE PUMPER.
An interesting model manufactured by Colark Ship Model Co. of Philadelphia, PA from the early 1930s. This item portrays the early style hand pumper that one would often see portrayed in the Currier & Ives fire scene lithographs from the 1880s era. It appears that the company primarily produced ship models. Perhaps by a special request, this item was manufactured as a promotional gift, yet oftentimes these are found in quality toy collections. Primarily constructed of cast iron and vibrantly painted in red with a nickel plated ornately cast center section, all fastened to a center "block". In the old days this unit was hand drawn to the fire and several fireman would pump the handles thus creating a powerful spray of water through the hose. At the front of the pumper is a reel that contained the coiled hose. An interesting model/toy that fits in well with not only toy collections but fire memorabilia collections as well. SIZE: 14" l. CONDITION: Overall condition is very good. Center "block" section has aged repaint with screws of newer vintage attaching nickel plated supports for hand pump mechanism. 1-13389
