FREDERIC WINGATE TALL CASE CLOCK.
First quarter 19th century, Augusta, Maine. The arched molded crest surmounted by brass ball and spire finials alternating with contrasting pierced fretwork above the astragal arched door flanked by freestanding colonnettes with brass capitals and bases. The door opening to a enameled dial, a moon phase within the arch. the dial with Roman and Arabic numeral chapter rings centering a sweep seconds subsidiary dial above time and strike apertures above an arched calendar aperture. The name "F. Wingate/AUGUSTA/No. 302." All within paint decorated spandrels depicting conch shells within oak leaf clusters. A weight driven refurbished eight day movement striking on a bell within the case. The cove-molded case above the throat with engaged quarter columns with brass capitals and bases centering a door with applied molding and a bird's eye maple panel above the cove-molded box base raised on slender French feet. The box base with conforming bird's eye maple panel. Clock is offered with finials, pendulum and weights. SIZE: 95" h x 13-3/4" w of throat x 9" d.
