(1800-1874) Confederate Admiral and commander of the ironclad CSS Virginia, best remembered for his role in the Battle of Hampton Roads, during which he was injured. Later was on the Tennessee during the Battle of Mobile Bay and imprisoned thereafter. Scarce war-date carte-de-visite by Anthony of New York, shows Buchanan in a seated pose in uniform. Light staining to margins, image docketed on front at blank margin, revenue stamp on verso. Very good condition, sold with another Civil War era CDV of an officer in the Union Army by Sanderson of New Orleans, not identified by us. Two pieces.
