This is a hard to find, Linen backed Belgian 1950s Re-Release movie poster from the 1931 Universal horror classic, FRANKENSTEIN. This linen-backed poster measures 15 3/4" X 19 3/4" and features the iconic, instantly recognizable face of Frankenstein's monster. During my research, I found information that The image featured on this original re-release belgian poster, is really the Glenn Strange likeness who played the monster in the 1940s. This is most interesting because the film and poster is clearly for the 1931 Boris Karloff Frankenstein and Karloff's name is featured prominently under the Frankenstein title. This poster is a an original 1950's Belgian Re-Relesase poster for the 1931 Frankenstein film starring Karloff. This poster is in overall really good shape with the exception of some minor creasing around the borders and one tear in near the middle left of the poster that goes a bit into the poster but does not affect any of the key artwork such as the monter's face or title. (See pictures) This is a very nice piece and highly collectible from one of the most classic and iconic film in cinema history. (From Wikinpedia) Frankenstein is a 1931 American pre-Code science fiction horror film directed by James Whale, produced by Carl Laemmle Jr., and adapted from a 1927 play by Peggy Webling, which in turn was based on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. The Webling play was adapted by John L. Balderston and the screenplay written by Francis Edward Faragoh and Garrett Fort, with uncredited contributions from Robert Florey and John Russell. Frankenstein stars Colin Clive as Henry Frankenstein, an obsessed scientist who digs up corpses with his assistant in order to assemble a living being from dead body parts. The resulting creature, often known as Frankenstein's monster, is portrayed by Boris Karloff. The make-up for the monster was provided by Jack Pierce. Alongside Clive and Karloff, the film's cast also includes Mae Clarke, John Boles, Dwight Frye, and Edward Van Sloan.Produced and distributed by Universal Pictures, the film was a commercial success upon release, and was generally well received by both critics and audiences. It spawned a number of sequels and spin-offs, and has had a significant impact on popular culture, with the imagery of a scientist's hunchbacked assistant—as well as the film's depiction of Frankenstein's monster—becoming iconic. In 1991, the United States Library of Congress selected Frankenstein for preservation in the National Film Registry as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
