FOUR HAND-COLORED AQUATINTS BY JANINET

(Jean-François Janinet, French, 1752-1814). From his circa 1807 series, "Vues des plus beaux edifices publics et particuliers de la ville de Paris", and comprising "Vue de la Place de le Concorde Cit`d Louis XV", "Vue du Palais Corps Legislatif Ci-Devant Bourbon", "Vue du Palais de l`Institut de France" and "Vue de la Place Vendome", each notated l.l.c. "Durand imp", l.r.c. "Janinet sculp". Janinet is considered one the most accomplished French engravers of the 18th century, whose images stand as a testimony to the superior quality of early French color printing. In 1771 he began to work in Bonnet`s atelier where he soon mastered the techniques of multiple-plate color printing, refining those processes by 1772 to produce the first color prints in imitation of watercolor and wash drawings, executed entirely with specialized engravers tools and without recourse to aquatint. Sight size the first 7 5/8"h x 12 1/4"w, the second 5 3/8"h x 8 1/8"w, the third 3 3/4"h x 5 5/8"w
