FORREST, NATHAN BEDFORD
(1821 - 1877) Confederate lieutenant general of Tennessee cavalry and arguably the greatest cavalry officer in history, he raided and harassed Union forces and supply lines with great effect throughout the war. War-date partly-printed D.S. signed twice "N. B. Forrest Brg. Genl" on CSA Requisition for Forage, 1p. oblong 4to., Atlanta, Jan. 1, 1864, concerning the requisition of forage for his privately-owned horse for the entire month of January. Signatures are very light yet entirely legible, a small hole and stain in center of document does not affect text, evenly toned. Along with a D.S. "G. W. Allen" as aide-de-camp for Forrest on a similar form, 1p. oblong 4to., Atlanta, May 1, 1864, concerning forage for Forrest's horse for May. Two pieces.
