Cal. 6.5-257 Roberts. S# 7799. Bbl. 19 3/4" medium sporter weight with 2 drilled and tapped 6-48 holes having plug screws located about 4.5" and 6.25" from receiver. Mfg. 1948 (1947-1963) by FN in Belgium; barreled actions commonly sold to US markets. Oval with "FN" and 1948 on right side of front receiver ring below stock line along with "Made in Belgium" plus "7799" behind recoil lug. Commercial action based on military Model 98 but more attractive being without charging thumb slot and stripper clip guide; right of rear bridge also factory drilled and tapped for receiver sight. Pear shaped bolt knob. Bolt shroud with safety reminiscent of Buehler designs. Trigger guard assembly is military style with lock screws (missing). Trigger is single stage with added trigger shoe. Stock is checkered European walnut having checkering, engraved (oak leafs and acorns) cartridge trap at rear of toe line (4 cartridges), basket weave patterned horn buttplate, Greener style safety on left side, straight comb, pointed shadow line cheekpiece, and sculptured pistol grip. Fitted with 1 piece Redfield base and vintage vertical split rings (2 screw front, narrower single screw rear). Vintage steel tubed Weaver K4 with crosshair reticle. Area under pistol grip has copper inlay with "D. B. TERK AUSTIN TEXAS". This wildcat caliber was derived from the popular conversion of the 6.5 Arisaka whereby they were made useful by rechambering to the 257 Roberts necked up to 6.5MM as ammo was not available for the WW-II GI bring-backs immediately after the war. Often named the 6.5 Roberts. Performance is very similar to the European 6.5X57. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: like new RCBS 6.5-257 Roberts die set plus loose bag of bullets (approx. 100) and 257 Roberts brass (approx. 50). CONDITION: fine looking hunting rifle with very good barrel and action finish (occasional spot of thinning); trigger guard assembly with notable thinning and slight wear. Scope set has thinning exterior finish and near excellent optics. Stock has light handling marks under extra applied finish. Buttplate has some light insect damage. Cartridge trap is near excellent. Extractor has cleaned surface showing light prior pitting. Bore is bright having wear and hint of frosting. Greener style safety moves to each position, but does not restrict firing. (25-3925/NW). MODERN. $600-900.
