Cal. approx. 65. NSN. Bbl. 49" octagon to rnd. with a faceted transition and straight rifled bore. Top flat has barely visible markings that are indiscernible. Brass blade front sight with fixed V-notch rear sight. Unmarked flintlock reconversion replacement lock. Curled plain non-set trigger. Full length stock of fiddle figured maple fastened by 4 wedges. Transitions at comb and thimble have curled incise carved highlights. Brass fittings include the crescent buttplate, fluted acorn finial long tang trigger guard, fluted brass forearm cap, replacement sideplate with starburst and feather engraving. Replacement artificially striped ramrod held by a faceted thimble and 2 faceted pipes. Top of buttplate is marked "H gale". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: powder horn with wooden end plug measures 14 1/2" around outside curve and is fitted with a red and white cloth sash. 5" hand carved priming horn with hinged metal closure. Antler handled knife has a 6 1/2" spear point blade and leather covered wood sheath. CONDITION: bbl. has a mottled brown patina showing pitting that becomes heavy in the breech area. Flats of the octagon portion show wrench or vice marks. Lock has a smooth touched up brown appearance. Refinished stock has repaired breaks and cracks in wrist area, forward of lockplate, and several places along the forearm including a significant area of plastic wood repair toward the tip. Lock and trigger are functioning properly. Dark pitted bore retains intact shallow rifling. (01-27583/DS). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
