FLAPPER FANNY/FANTASTIC FUNNIES 1936 In 1936 Gladys Parker was creating Flapper Fanny and her Kid Sister. As a cartoonist her success continued for a few years. At that time, her first publication was announced in the paper. The Jumbo Scrapbook contains the original announcement as well as approximately 200 of her cartoons that followed. The first 75 have been diligently applied to the scrapbook. The dates are in 1936.
The remainder were kept separated in each page and since have been put into separate envelopes. There are 14 envelopes containing 127 cartoons. Flapper Fanny was sort of a modern day Dear Abby with her wit and wisdom in a Gibson Girl style body. The last page shows Gladys Parker in her new profession. She left a successful career as a cartoonist and became a dress designer.
Certainly these cartoons are an expression of the war years and a great piece of history. Prime examples of the genre of the day.
