FITZSIMMONS, THOMAS
(1741 - 1811) Signer of the Constitution influential in founding the Bank of North America and in obtaining the protective tariff. War-date E.S. "Thos. Fitzsimmons" 1p. 12mo., Philadelphia, Mar. 30, 1782 concerning, in part: "...In thirty days…pay to Thomas Fitzsimons or order One hundred pounds, ten shillings for our subscription for the purchase of a ship to protect the trade. Saml. C. Morris & Co...". Additional notation on verso adds that the ship will be used for river defense. Importantly, in 1776 Morris was, along with delegates Ben Franklin, Thomas McKean and Benjamin Rush, an elected an officer in Philadelphia's Provincial Conference that laid the ground works for writing Pennsylvania's Constitution later that year. But, in a sordid matter was wounded while helping suppress a riot against Tory sympathizers. Very good.
