Lee, led both a brigade and a division of cavalry in the Army of Northern Virginia throughout the war. Postwar, he was elected governor of Virginia and appointed Consul General at Havana in 1896. Longstreet. <b>War-date</b> AEsS on verso of brief DS, oblong 12mo, 1p, Richmond, 1864. His horse being unfit, Private William H. Moseley, Co. A, 2nd Va. Cavalry is “<i>detailed to go to Bedford Co. to procure a fresh one to return without fail in sixteen days</i>...” Following the chain of command, the request is endorsed by Col. </span><b><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext;text-transform:uppercase'>Thomas Munsford</span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt; font-family:Arial;color:windowtext'> (1831-1918) who forwards it to Brigadier General </span><b><span style='font-size: 9.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext;text-transform: uppercase'>W. C. Wickham</span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext'> (1820-1888); then to Lee, who pens “<i>Hd Qrs: Cav V.D. Aug 31st: 64. Appd & respectfully forwarded. Fitz. Lee, Maj Genl Comdg</i>”; followed by Sorrel, who pens, “<i>G M Sorrel,</i>” signing for Lieutenant General Anderson. All darkly penned.
