SELF-LOADING RIFLE. Cal. 401 SL. S# 3591. Bbl. 20". Model 1910 self-loading rifle mfg. by Winchester during the first year of production (1910). Left side of the bbl. exhibits markings stipulating Winchester's mfg. and patent information, as well as the model and cal. designations, with "-NICKEL STEEL BARREL-/ ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER" marked towards the breech. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the plunger bar, which is polished in-the-white. Plain wood pistol grip buttstock and forend has been sanded and revarnished at one time. Dovetailed white beaded Marbles No. 2 blade front sight, with dovetailed U-notch rear sight. Receiver tang has been drilled and tapped. Matching numbers are present on the upper and lower assemblies. MAGS: 1 5-rd. CONDITION: receiver retains large amounts of its original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, with scattered spots of light surface oxidation, pitting, and striations from prior cleaning present overall. Bbl. retains the majority of its original blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina. Forend cap retains fair amounts of its blue finish, with the balance exhibiting a gray patina. Bright bore, exhibiting mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. PROVENANCE: Estate of Russell Dickerman. (25-1827/MLW).
