An exquisitely carved Japanese ivory netsuke figure depicting a wiseman studying games of go. Signed Kuyo to bottom on red plaque. Includes wooden presentation box. Circa 1965-1970. Finely carved and teastained. Measures 2 1/8" length (5.4cm). Ivory weight of 34.8 grams. Provenance: Featured in the publication 'Contemporary Netsuke' by Miriam Kinsey, figure 98, page 109.
