FINE EARLY AMERICAN CLOCKWORK BLACK DANCER TOY.
A phenomenal early American toy, circa 1870s in near mint, as found, untouched condition. This toy was manufactured by Automatic Toy Works however the interior of the box has a large paper label with directions and the supposed maker/jobbers name "La Grove, Kemp & Webb" and a patent date of 1873. The toy is in astounding all original condition and one can only imagine that a child must never have played with the toy and/or it must have been wrapped up and tucked away the better part of 100+ years. The wooden box does not have the typical darkening to the finish and the clothing on the figure is vibrant and pristine. Normally figures such as this with papier mache faces show signs of aging, such as alligatoring, this particular example has none. One of the finest examples known to exist! SIZE: 11-1/2" t x 8" w x 4-1/4" d. CONDITION: In very fine to near mint condition. 1-13629
