FINE EARLY 18TH CENTURY ENGLISH BRACKET CLOCK BY GEORGE ETHERINGTON. The ebonized case has brass swing handle on top, glass door with brass wire top corners and identical door in back. The brass dial with silver plated chapter ring and pendulum indicator. An oval silver plaque signed “Etherington, London”. The corners of the dome top dial plate have gilt pierced spandrels and are surmounted by a strike/silent dial. Fusee strike and time. The back plate heavily engraved with bird, basket of flowers and foliate scrolls. Repair marks found on movement indicate years of 1822-1882. George Etherington was admitted to the Clock Makers Company in 1684 and became a Master in 1709. Key and pendulum present. SIZE: 20-1/2” to top of handle. 11-1/4” w x 8-1/2” d. CONDITION: Very good. The case has some minor small pieces of molding missing but there are some which were found in the bottom of the clock which are included. 9-27906
