BUCHELE. William Buchelle (1895-1977) author of 2 texts on recreating the American long rifle was a master craftsman. His guns and hawks are among the finest recreations made in the 1950s-1970s. Sotheby's cataloged a nearly identical unsigned Buchelle hawk as "Potawatomi Ceremonial Pipe Tomahawk, circa 1820" in 1990 catalog. This hawk has 6.5" cast iron head with brass pipe bowl applied, blade is engraved, signed, brass inset, 17.5" curly maple stem has unique face in sun engraved silver insets. CONDITION: fine overall.
