S# 6230 Cal. 44This is an honest complete & original 5th variation which encompasses approximate serial number range 5000–12910. Characteristics of the this 1864 manufactured rifle include pointed 2nd type butt plate with .75" trap door, .65" hole bored in the butt stock to accept the iron cleaning rod.Large .125" trigger retaining pin, lever latch on lower receiver tang and latch flange on rear of lever, has a milled flat along the magazine follower slot in lower front of receiver, large magazine follower with 5/8" wide finger tab, square back front sight blade, slanted profile to stock comb, distinctive "bump" on left side of oil finished stock, large 3.25" all serif barrel address , sight dovetail milled in barrel only, 900 yard rear sight with slide stop screw at top, standard 6-groove rifling, sling swivels mounted on left side. Serial number stamped on barrel behind rear sight dovetail, left side of lower receiver tang, top receiver tang channel in butt stock, inside bottom edge of butt plate, "W" stamped rear of latch on tang. Matching assembly numbers are stamped on rounded portion of barrel under loading sleeve and on rear edge of loading sleeve, though we did disassemble to view them. This rifle has "as found" appearance. There is small name stamped on right barrel flat at frame "ASHLY", significance unknown. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: old collection tags, purchased August 1983. CONDITION: very good overall, complete and original, brass has smooth patina with old tool marks at side plates, iron is mottled plum/gray with tiny traces of original blue where protected, markings all discernible. Sound well fit stock with distinctive "Henry bump", hand worn patina, hairline crack on right from buttplate. Mechanically fine, good rifled bore. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection.
