This is an exceptional and large watercolor by the listed German-American painter, Arthur Feudel (1857-1929). Period glazed frame measures 38" wide, 30" high and 1" deep. Portion of the painting exposed under the matte measures 35.5" wide, 27.5" high and 1" deep. Depicted in this landscape is a gentleman farmer with horse and cart, possibly gathering hay. Weighs an estimated 8-12 lbs. We have not inspected the work outside its frame. Gimbel Brothers paper label on the rear of the frame shows the address of their flagship store at 33rd Street and Broadway which opened in 1910. The hand-written number 32295 is likely an inventory code and not a date.

Additional images gladly forwarded upon request.

Though often referred to as a Dutch-born painter, the AskArt database indicates Feudel was German, born in Chemnitz Saxony in 1857. He is known to have lived in Katwyk Holland and emigrated to America where he settled and worked in New York as a commercial illustrator and painter. He exhibited at the Art Institute in Chicago, the Boston Art Club, the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy. He is known for his watercolors depicting coastal views and landscapes in The Netherlands and U.S. This item resides in our client's place in Larchmont NY in Westchester County and may be seen by appointment.
