A manuscript document recording the arbitration and determination of a land transfer from the Estate of Capt. John Fenner of Saybrook, on behalf of the children of Sarah Fenner and Mrs. Elizabeth Fenner, executed and signed by Samuel Lynde and Nathaniel Parker, March 21, 1739. Written on both sides, with wax stamps beside the signatures. 11 1/4in. x 7 3/4in. Condition: The document is in eight detached pieces, which were at some point stitched together with fine thread; the edges of sections are frayed, creased, tears; toned, and darkening/old dampstain down the center; the old thread repairs are only partially intact. PLEASE NOTE: THE DOCUMENT IS TONED/DARKENED WITH AGE; IMAGES MAY APPEAR LIGHTER ON DIFFERENT SCREENS. This lot and the other Chapman-related items offered in this sale were part of a collection of papers and ephemera related to the family of Edward Mortimer Chapman (1862-1952), a Connecticut pastor, academic, and author, and a descendant of Robert Chapman, one of the first settlers of Saybrook, Connecticut (c. 1635).
